Calling All Guth Surname Researchers!
If you are trying to connect with others who have Guth ancestors, feel free to put a brief post here telling who you are looking for. Tell where they lived and what time period you are looking for. Also, tell other Guth researchers so they can connect too.
Guth Family Found in Census Record for 1880 in NJ
Here is a screen shot I took of the census record I found tonight on my Guth ancestors, who started off in Europe, came to NYC, then moved to NJ by 1880. It looks like the street is Cone St. in Orange, NJ
The Guth Family Moves
The Guth ancestors I have, came here from Strasbourg, (Strosburg, according to the records) in the 1850's. They settled in NYC and lived at 117 Willett Street. My great grandfather, George W. Guth, was born in 1862. They were part of The First German Church of Rivington St. in NYC.
I did a little research last night and found this family lived in Orange, NJ, according to a copy of a census record taken. I need to find the street they lived on. They had three children, Amelia (Wallace), Maria Louise, and George.
It says that George was married to Catherine, and his occupation was that of 'retailed grocer'. Also, his parents were born in Germany.

Information on George W. Guth
George W. Guth was my great grandfather (1862-1939). He had a couple of different occupations. In his younger years, he was a hatter and worked at a hat factory. In his later years, he worked for the railroad.
Guth, George - works at hat factory; 1880 Orange: George Guth, age 54, b. Germany
Guth, Mary L. - hat trimmer; sister of George Guth
(information from ‘Hatters at Orange, NJ)
From this info, we can tell that he worked at a hat factory in Orange, NJ. From other directories, we know he lived in Brooklyn in 1890, when he became a father to my grandfather, George Robert Guth.
From this I also see a mix up. George W. Guth would not be 54 years old here, and his father was from Germany, so perhaps this is referring to his father (J. Georg Gut)? If so, then J. Georg Gut was probably born in or around 1826. Thank God for clues.

Guth Connection Family Page
Here is my first blog on the Guth Connection Family Page. I am looking for those who are researching their ancestors with the Guth surname. My Guths came to America around 1850 and landed in NYC. They lived on Willett St. (off Rivington) and attended a church called 'The First German Presbyterian Church of Rivington Street'. J. Georg Gut, as his name was listed when he first came to America, had a brother who also came to America and lived in NYC. Georg Gut was married to Katherina Gitz, and they both came from what is known today as Alsace-Lorraine, which was owned by the Germans and French, on and off. They had three children to my knowledge, Amelie, Maria Louise, and George William (my great grandfather). How I wish I could have talked to them and asked them questions about their ancestors! If you have Guth ancestors, and would like to put out a post on them, feel free to post here and see if we can connect the Guths the came to America, and even around the world!
